Chicory - Chioggia Variegata (Seeds)
- Heirloom Variety
A challenging crop to grow but a visual delight for the eyes and a culinary treat for the taste buds. Round heads grow to 5" in diameter. Smooth leaves are white with intricately patterned red flecks.
How to Grow
Similar to growing heading type lettuce. Plant seed in successive crops every 2 weeks from April to mid June as long as weather is cool. Sow seed 1/8" deep and 1" apart with the rows 16" apart. Thin to 12" apart. Keep evenly watered as water stress can lead to premature bolting and leaf bitterness. Fall crops can be attempted by seeding in mid to late August. This is a challenging plant to grow.
