Fresh Christmas Tree Care
Posted by Sunset Garden Experts on
There is nothing like the lovely smell that a fresh Christmas tree brings indoors. There are some important things however to make sure you do in order to keep your tree fresh for as long as possible indoors.
- After you have selected the tree of your choice, keep it fresh in your home by storing it in a sheltered and unheated area, such as a porch or garage until you are ready to decorate it.
- Saw off about an inch of the butt and put the base of the trunk in snow or in a pail of water to help keep it even fresher until you bring your tree indoors
- When you bring the tree indoors for decorating, make sure to make a fresh cut on the bottom of the tree removing at least another inch. The cut removes possible clotted resins that could prevent the tree from absorbing water.
- Once the tree is securely mounted in the stand, keep the stand filled with water by adding to it daily. A tree may absorb from a pint to a gallon of water daily, depending upon its size and condition.
Today’s Christmas tree producer works hard to get quality trees to market in the freshest condition possible. Our tress are sheared annually for greater symmetry and some varieties are fertilized to promote greener and healthier foliage.
Fresh Christmas trees provide a true Christmas feel to any home whether it be simply the look or the delightful fresh scent they provide. That is why so many Canadian families choose a fresh tree in their homes for a truly traditional Christmas.
