Description

Dill seeds produce a plant that is a must-have for flavouring pickles and vinegar, as well as for salads, fish, vegetable and egg dishes. Mammoth Dill seeds produce a pretty plant with lacy foliage growing from 2-2.5' high in the garden. Dill is one of the easiest herbs to grow and can readily self-seed assuming you leave any of the seed heads on the plant. Dill is also used to attract beneficial insects such as lacewings, lady bugs, hover flies and parasitic wasps to the garden. Annual.

How to Grow

In a sunny site with average soil, direct-sow seeds no more than 1/4" deep and 1" apart. Seeding can be done anytime from mid-April through mid-July. Successive sowings every two to three weeks work best. Thin out seedlings to 6" apart in the garden. Seed exposure to light benefits germination. When flower head begins to brown, cut the entire head off and hang it upside down over a tray or bag to collect the mature seed as it falls out.
