Description

Money Plant forms a tight “rosette” of crown and root surrounded by foliage. A cold period over the first winter is required to initiate stem growth that produces the flowers. Plants grow to 90 cm (36″) in height and flower freely from early summer with shiny, flat, white silvery seed pods forming later on. The pods are a favourite for dried bouquets. This plant prefers noon hour shade and light mulching helps over-wintering evergreen rosettes survive the winter without damage. Flowers are fragrant, purple, pink or white appearing in clusters in late spring. Self seeds but not invasive. Biennial hardy to Zone 4.

How to Grow

Outdoors, sow seed in June and July for flowers the next year. Indoors sow seed in a soil-less mix in early April. Germinate at 20 C (70 F) for 15-20 days. Then grow on under lights at a slightly cooler temperature before hardening off and planting out after the danger of frost has passed. Space plants 30 cm (12″) apart in the garden.
