Amaranth - Red Garnet (Seeds)
Description
Variety originated in Mexico. Simply a beautiful looking edible plant! Colourful leaves can be used fresh or cooked. The plant can be left to mature and the seeds harvested for grain. Plants grow to 2 m (6’6”) in height. Matures in 90-120 days.
How to Grow
Sow seed direct in a sunny spot when the soil reaches 21°C (70°F) or start indoors 3 weeks before plant out time. Germination occurs between 10 – 20 days.
Planting Depth: 3 mm (1/8”). Seed Spacing: 5 cm (2”). Thin to: 45 cm (16”). Row Width: 60 cm (24”)
COMMENTS: Young leaves harvested at 20-30 days are mild tasting and tender, perfect for fresh mixed greens salad. Mature seed heads are a favourite target of both native and fall migrating birds. 1,400 seeds per gram.
