Chives are a hardy, easy-to-grow perennial herb with slender green stems and attractive pink flowers. Both the stems and flowers are edible, offering a fresh, mild green onion flavour that works beautifully in salads, sandwiches, baked potatoes, dips, and many other dishes.

Plants form clumps that can be divided in spring or fall, making them easy to propagate and maintain. Chives also grow very well in containers and can be harvested over a long season. With some protection from extreme cold, they may even continue producing through winter.

The pink flowers are highly attractive to bumblebees, hoverflies, and other beneficial insects, and the dried flower stems can also be used in arrangements.
