Hojiso Perilla Shiso is a highly ornamental and flavourful herb with striking bicoloured leaves that are bright green on top and rich burgundy underneath. The broad, deeply serrated foliage adds colour to the garden while also being widely used in Japanese and Korean cuisine.

The young leaves and flowering tips are especially tender and can be used fresh in salads, soups, wraps, and garnishes. The leaves are also traditionally used to flavour and colour pickled foods, while the fresh seeds are edible as well.

This warmth-loving annual grows vigorously in the garden and can reach approximately 100 cm (39") tall. In containers, plants usually remain more compact.
