Emerald Sponge Gourd is a versatile warm-season variety that can be used both as a fresh vegetable and as a natural luffa sponge. Harvest the fruits young and tender for cooking much like cucumber or zucchini, or allow them to fully mature and become fibrous for drying.

The smooth, cylindrical fruits grow approximately 45–50 cm (15–20") long. For the straightest fruits, grow the vigorous vines on a sturdy trellis so the gourds can hang freely as they develop.

As the fruits mature, the interior becomes increasingly fibrous and can be dried and cleaned for use as a natural luffa sponge.
